Healthcare AdministrationDegrees

Editorial Methodology

What we list, how we classify and verify it, and what we do not claim.

Last updated 12 October 2026

We currently list 282 programs at 71 colleges and universities and record 140 related offerings we checked and did not list (certificates, nursing leadership degrees, generic MBA or MPH programs, health informatics degrees), shown on each school page with the reason. Coverage is partial and growing; a program missing from the directory has not been verified yet.

Which programs are eligible

IncludedNot included
Bachelor's degrees whose major is healthcare administration, health administration, healthcare management, health services administration or management, or hospital administration (BS, BA, BBA, BAS)Associate degrees, certificates, minors and non-degree courses
Master of Health Administration (MHA), Master of Healthcare Administration, MS/MA in Healthcare Administration or Management, Master of Health Services Administration and verified equivalents — standard and executiveGeneral MBAs without a named healthcare pathway, and generic MPH programs
Doctor of Health Administration (DHA), PhD in Health(care) Administration or Health Services Administration, and other doctorates whose title names health administration, management or leadership — each with its exact awardNursing degrees (including nursing leadership MSN and DNP programs) and clinical professional degrees
Labelled separately: MBA programs with a named healthcare pathway, MPH programs with a named health policy & management pathway, other degrees with a named healthcare administration concentration, and official joint degreesMedical assistant, medical billing and coding and medical office training; health informatics, analytics or public health degrees without a named administration pathway

The awarded degree and the official program identity decide; the department name does not. We display the exact official award and never relabel it: an MS is not shown as an MHA, a DHA or DBA is never shown as a PhD, and an MBA pathway is never shown as an MHA. When the evidence is ambiguous, a program goes to editorial review and is not published until an editor decides, with the reason recorded.

Program classification

  • Dedicated degree — the degree or official major is healthcare administration or management itself.
  • Joint or dual degree — an official combined program in which one award is a healthcare administration degree (MHA/MBA, JD/MHA).
  • MBA healthcare pathway — an MBA (or DBA) with an officially named healthcare concentration, specialization or track. Listed on the healthcare MBA pages.
  • MPH pathway — an MPH (or DrPH) with an officially named health policy and management or health administration concentration.
  • Other named concentration — for example an MPA with a Health Care Administration concentration. The awarded degree is the other field.

Default directory results show dedicated and joint degrees. Pathways appear when you choose to include them, on their own pages, and on school profiles — always labelled. Pathway (standard, executive, accelerated, degree completion) is recorded separately: “executive” describes who a program is for, not how it is delivered.

Delivery, campus attendance and practical training

Three separate facts, each only as the university states it. Delivery is on campus, online, online with required campus visits, or hybrid. Campus attendance is “no required campus visits” only when the university says so; required orientations, residencies, immersions and on-campus sessions are listed with their frequency and location; otherwise it reads “not verified”. Practical training — administrative residencies, internships, practicums, field experience — is shown with published hours, who arranges the placement and whether it can be completed near the student's home. An online program can require an internship at a health organization without any campus visit, and online coursework never implies “no campus visits”.

A school's location is not a student's eligibility to enroll. Online programs listed under a state are offered by schools based there; published enrollment restrictions (state authorization) are recorded separately.

Accreditation and certification

  • Institutional accreditation applies to the institution and comes from the U.S. Department of Education's DAPIP database. Every listed school holds a current institutional accreditation.
  • CAHME accreditation applies to a specific graduate healthcare management program. We record it only when the program's own page or CAHME's site names that program, and only for universities on CAHME's published list. Candidacy is not accreditation, and probation is shown. A university is never labelled CAHME-accredited as a whole. See CAHME-accredited programs.
  • AUPHA certification applies to undergraduate programs and is shown as certification, not accreditation. AUPHA membership alone is not certification. See AUPHA-certified programs.
  • Business and public-health accreditation (AACSB, ACBSP, IACBE, CEPH, NASPAA) is shown for MBA, MPH and MPA pathways when verified for the business or public-health school — never as CAHME accreditation.

Bachelor's entry routes

For bachelor's programs we record first-year entry, transfer entry, degree completion and second-bachelor's routes — each only from explicit official wording. A degree-completion program is never presented as a first-year option.

Tuition

Tuition is recorded exactly as published: amount in USD, basis (per credit, per term, per semester, per academic year or whole program), student category (resident, nonresident, online, international or all students), academic year when printed, and whether it comes from the program's own page or a school-wide table. Figures on different bases are never compared to call one program cheaper. An estimated total tuition is calculated only as published per-credit rate × published required credits (or taken from a published whole-program figure), on one consistent residency basis, with fees and residency travel excluded — see the affordable online MHA page for the method. Missing tuition is shown as not published, never as zero.

Deadlines

Each deadline belongs to an intake with its year (for example Fall 2027) and, where the university distinguishes them, to priority or final rounds and domestic or international applicants. A date is stored as a date only when the year is printed with it; otherwise the printed wording is shown. Past deadlines are marked as passed and are never rolled forward into a new cycle. Rolling admission is shown only when the university says so.

Admissions and tests

Requirements are shown with their published status — required, optional, recommended, not required or waived — including prerequisites and work, healthcare or management experience. Missing GRE or GMAT information is shown as not verified; it never means “no GRE”. Missing experience information never means “no experience required”. We do not publish acceptance rates or estimate admission chances.

Funding

Scholarships, assistantships, fellowships, tuition discounts and employer tuition support are listed as published, with eligibility and whether they are competitive. For doctoral programs that publish a funding policy we record whether tuition coverage and a stipend are guaranteed, conditional or competitive; a proposed classification that is not supported by verified quotes is downgraded to not verified. Loans are never shown as scholarships.

Sources and verification

Every fact carries the URL of the official page it came from and a verbatim quote. Before publication a script re-fetches each page and searches for the quote; a fact whose quote is not found is stored but never shown. Only the institution's own domains — plus the accreditors' own sites for accreditation facts — count as official sources, never another directory, ranking or lead-generation site. Institutional identity comes from IPEDS (U.S. Department of Education) and institutional accreditation from DAPIP. Details on the data sources page.

Pages behind bot protection are not bypassed; when an official page cannot be read, the fact stays unverified and the gap is recorded. Each profile shows its last verification date. Programs not re-verified within 12 months are flagged and marked as due for verification.

Independence and advertising

Listing is free. Paid placements are labelled “Sponsored”, appear in their own section, and only where the sponsored program already matches the page's results. Sponsorship never changes what we list, how a program is described, its accreditation labels, its verified status, or our editorial selections. See the sponsorship disclosure and the rankings methodology.

What we do not claim

  • No salaries, job-placement or graduation rates for programs, and no implied graduate outcomes. Occupation-level statistics in guides are labelled with their source and period.
  • No student reviews, ratings or testimonials.
  • No partnerships with the schools listed, and no application processing.
  • No claim that a healthcare administration degree grants a clinical license; regulated roles such as nursing home administrator are licensed by each state.
  • No guarantee that a program will admit you, fund you, or enroll students from your state.
